Visting Our Sisters

26 September 2009

On Friday some of the novitiate Sisters went to St. Catherine's Infirmary at the Caldwell Dominican Sisters' motherhouse to visit our 3 sisters who are residents there. Sr. Mary Peter, who is always referred to as "little" Sr. Mary Peter gives everyone a hug that is strong enough to break your neck! Right away she makes signs of driving a car and asks, "Are we going to France?" meaning the Lourdes grotto on the grounds.

We bundled her up in as many sweaters we could find and Sr. Diana Marie's jacket, found Sr. Mary Elizabeth and headed out to enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Sr. Mary Anthony, who is also a resident at the Infirmary rarely can be persuaded to go out for a "drive" so this why she isn't in the photo.

Every time the Sisters drive up the Infirmary they see this beautiful statue of St. Catherine, "She's texting!" It sure does look that way. Actually, orginally she was holding a crucifix which recently was damaged.

St. Catherine texting the Pope!

A humorous pose with St. Catherine.

Your novitiate looks so happy (and Sr. Joseph Maria is always smiling) but where is Sr. Maria Teresa?

Sister MT was on her monthly retreat day.

that is funniest photo "St Catherine txts the Pope". I think I will frame the one with the novitiate sisters and put it on my desk at work.

Who said God couldn't communicate with us using modern technology? Even St Catherine's in on the act! ;) Love the photos, Sisters. Blessings on all your ways.

Loved the picture of the sisters trying hard to look pious with St.Catherine

I've said it before, but I will say it again, you sisters make me laugh. I love your sense of humor! It was nice to see the young ones enjoying their time with the older sisters.

God bless you!

Love in Christ,

Candice

I just discovered your blog through a friend's link and have been here many times this week enjoying. My older children got such a kick out of the "texting saint" that I had to link it on my own blog along with a little push for your beautiful soap:).

Thanks so much for sharing part of yourselves with the world. It is so encouraging to hear from you in this way and be touched by the beautiful vocation you are living.

This is a wonderful story and photo. But, from the photo, either the visit happened awhile ago, or the photo was from another visit. Sister Joseph Maria has now taken temporary vows (and we can hardly wait for her perpetual vows in a few years). The two postulants are now novices! And, I have heard that, unfortunately, Sister Diana is no longer with the Community due to health issues. God's will is sometimes very difficult and I'm sure the decision to leave was very painful for Sister Diana (and, for the Community, who must miss her). However, I know that God will bring Sister Diana (and the Community) greater blessings in the future for following God's will, however difficult.

Some readers (like me) who avidly read every blog, might be confused, so it might be helpful to add a note that the visit described and/or the photo are not recent.
