Oh, HURRAH! What a wonderful name! How beautiful Sr. Mary Magdalene looks. Her radiance reminds me of Sr. Joseph Maria's and Sr. Maria Teresa's on their special day's too!

May God bless your whole house, and particularly your novitiate, which brings us so much hope for the monastic life on the East Coast!

And may Sr. Mary Magdalene persevere!

Many, many congratulations to Sister Mary Magdalene - what a beautiful name! I will pray for her perseverance and will also pray for all of you Sisters in thanksgiving for your lives.

Hurray for Sister Mary Magdalene!

Love in Christ,

Candice

With the relics of St. Mary Magdalene here in the US I should have thought that would be the name chosen. You all look great especially Sr. Mary Magdalene's and Sr. M. Catherine's cappas. [wink]

Yes! I LOVE her name...and so appropriate! Congratulations Sr Mary Magdalen!

A question re Dominicans, if you don't mind? Do you wear a crucifix under your scapular? Seems like I can see one, there. Also, do you receive rings at profession?

Moniales 12:58 PM

Yes, for some monasteries the nuns wear the crucifix under the scapular and over the heart. Other monasteries wear it on their belt. It all depends on where the founding monastery is from. In the Dominican Order there have always been many little differences like this. In fact, the 3rd Master of the Order, Humbert of Romans wrote a great little article about this way back nearly 800 years ago!

Here in Summit, our crucifixes contain relics of the True Cross, St. Dominic and other Dominican Saints.

We receive a ring at Solemn Profession. It's up to the Sister to decide if she wishes to wear it on her left or right hand.
