Novitiate Formation Is More Than Just Classes
05 March 2010
Formation is more than just taking classes, it embraces the whole life of the postulant and one area of formation is that of growing into the community so that it is my community and I do my part to make the monastery a place of joy and home for all the Sisters!
Sr. Janlyn, who loves to bake, expressed interest in learning how to bake bread. So today, she and her novice mistress, Sr. Mary Catharine, who is a master baker herself spent the morning in the bakery--which by the way is once again THE BAKERY and not the soap department or the kitchen!
Tonight for supper we had the results of their labors. Delicious whole wheat bread with flax seeds and sunflower seeds added in! During the fast season bread is an essential and we especially enjoy having fresh baked bread!
Sr. Janlyn is also smiling because she has recently been accepted to begin her novitiate and receive the longed-desired Dominican habit on May 13th!

Hooray for Sr. Janlyn!
The bread looks delicious.
Sr.Janlyn,
Congratulations on the beautiful bread and the acceptance into the novitiate. My happiest days as a novice were in my communities bakery; the parable of the yeast in the flour means so much more after watching 50 lbs of flour grow into enough bread to feed the community.
Blessings,
Sr. Carol Jean
Yay for Vestition! Congrats for Sr Janlyn and the Summit sisters!
Sr. Janlyn;
congratulations on the bread - which looks wonderful - but also (and more importantly) on being accepted to the Novitiate.
May God and S. Dominic (not forgetting S. Catharine, of course) richly bless you.
(ps : a spoonful of Molasses in the dough before it rises gives a lovely nutty edge to the flavour, and keeps the bread moist longer.)
Dear Sisters!
I am Sr. Anna Imelda, O.P. with the Vietnamese Dominican Sisters of Mary Immaculate Province in Houston, TX. I came across your site from a request of a Dominican Brother - Br. Sebastian Johnson, O.P. Your community is indeed blessed!! I would like to send my congratulations and blessing to your community and Sister Janlyn on her future date of vestation of the Dominican habit on May 13th - the Feast of Blessed Imelda Lambertini, O.P. Oh how I must not forget that date because that is my feastday!!!
Congratulations to Sister Janlyn! We look forward to pictures and her new name.
The bread looks fabulous -- now I must go and get some toast!
God bless you all, Sisters.
Love in Christ,
Candice
